Emily York: ABOUT
Hey y'all! I'm Emily York and I'm from NC. I am a songwriter, singer, (rhythm) acoustic guitarist, and bassist. Whether it's writing your next hit, singing BGVs in the studio, or serving the Church, I'd love to serve you and your creative vision. Here's a bit of information about me:
EDUCATION: I have a Bachelor's of Music from Liberty University ('23). My specific degree is Commercial Music: Songwriting. This was where I gained a lot of my first professional experiences as a songwriter and performer. I was able to learn from people like Don Marsh, David Hahn, Nirva Ready, Mari Falcone, Krissy Nordhoff, Michael Boggs, and many other faculty and guests. I was then able to intern as a bass player with BeDoTell (NC Baptist) and be apart of an album recording at Liberty's Mathena Studios. I got to work with Steve Ivey during that process and see what the recording process is actually like.
GENRES: The musical genres I write and perform can be put into two categories: country music and Jesus music. Each of these genres have various subgenres that I love to explore and grow from. Some of my country influences are Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton, and Carrie Underwood. In the "Jesus music" category: Anne Wilson, Cody Carnes, and Charity Gayle.
THE MISSION: My mission is simple: to make music in such a way that Christ is glorified. He is our Creator, and we are creative as the creation made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). Furthermore, we should "sing to the Lord a new song" (Psalm 96:1) and "make a joyful noise to the Lord" (Psalm 98:4). While music is what I love to do, my priority is to fulfill the calling of the Great Commission (Matthew 28). No matter what the musical outlet, the Lord comes first!
